Directions Siri Can't Mess Up
Men get a bad wrap for their lack of using directions, whether when finding a destination or putting something together. In my experience, it's not just the men, kids do it too and it doesn't matter how old they are. Actually, it seems that they get worse about it the older they get.
What's the deal?
Running a company, a business, a home takes some doing. It takes organization, teamwork, diligence and direction. For real! I can attest because I've been there and I've learned through the years as a non-direction follower and a direction giver. I've never been much of a direction follower myself, which is why I don't like to bake.
How maddening it is to come across direction NOT being followed. Even the simplest thing can cause a domino affect and make several additional things go "wrong" or for that matter, mess up a whole project.
Some things have crazy directions that don't make sense at all, but most things have a process that the directions give in order for the end result to occur with success. And who doesn't love getting to a destination on time and without being flustered?
Having direction in an organization, company, home, etc., typically has a thought-out reasoning for the process. I know in my own life, directions I was to follow were for my own safety or because someone else had already tried things a different way and learned their laid out plans were effective and/or efficient.
Way back when God instructed Moses how to construct the Tabernacle and all its contents, one has to wonder how Moses processed all those directions. Taking notes just doesn't seem to be enough. Maybe since he wasn't a good speaker he didn't try to interject, "But what if we did...Can we use this instead...Wouldn't it be easier if..."
Reading through all the details of measurements, who does what, what materials were to be used and thinking about the reasoning for each item and how long it would take is pretty incredulous. I imagine my head would spin and it would be hard to think of where to start. And it begs to wonder- why?
Oh, He had His reasons!
Many methods are tried and true. Most of my madness is due to having been there and done that...I really would love for my kids to learn from my mistakes and hardheadedness, but so often they go their own way despite my warnings.
Sometimes modifications are in order and other times there truly is only one way to do things.
God made a modification to His process. I guess He grew tired of us flubbering around messing things up. The Arc was heavy and the tabernacle cumbersome. Plus, we humans complain a lot and there's the whole "free will" situation where we get to show how mule-ish we really are.
Honestly, I think He'd much rather reside in our hearts than a tent or a temple. It's way more personal and relational...easily accessed...comfortable. He made it after all.
Truly, there is only one way and the instructions are super simple. God uses the K.I.S.S. method these days, Keep It Super Simple. Although there's a whole book of examples and other's mistakes to learn from, the directions are crystal clear; simply follow Jesus. Accept Him as your savior and make Him your best friend! It truly is that simple. Make no mistake, He is the only way.
