It's Not About The Whale

Have you ever had trouble moving forward?

Doing something that just seems to keep going wrong?

As hard as you try, you just keep feeling like you’re going backward?

I have.

Sometimes I set my mind to do something and dumb little things just thwart my plans or intentions to where I spend more time and energy trying to accomplish the plan than if I had just waited.

Waited until the time was right.

How do I know the time wasn’t right?

Because if it was, things wouldn’t have kept defeating my plan.

Notice what I said there-my plan. MY. Plan…

I know when I’m making my own plans. I know when I’m doing something that I want to do verses doing what I should be doing. Whether it’s “real quick” or “first” or “just let me finish this”. Whatever the case may be, I know when I’m struggling to do what I want to do it’s because that is not what I’m supposed to be doing at that moment.

Jonah didn’t just get swallowed up by a whale because it made for a good story...albeit a short and abruptly ended story. There was so much more to that story and I love it because it doesn’t beat around the bush.

Jonah said “no” to God.

He tried to hide from Him.

He was found out and tossed into the sea by guys who were seeking God and His direction.

Jonah had to face the truth of his disobedience (as well as his lack of compassion for others, but that’s a different story) more than once…

In your face Jonah! You selfish little twerp.

Point made. Story over.

It doesn’t make sense to fight, argue or disagree with God. No matter what you think, how you feel, what you want, He knows best and He has a plan. His plan may not make sense to you at the moment, but it’s the right thing. It’s the best thing.

IE: Kids don’t understand why parents are so “mean” until they become one themselves.

We are not God. But He has our best interests in mind.

Listen to Him...you’ll be glad you did.
