It’s Friday. What do you typically do on Friday? TGIF. Fry-yay...End of the work week for some, regular day just like the other six for others. For me, it’s usually cleaning day and lately I’ve deemed it to be “no sewing day” in hopes of spending more focus on other things.

This Friday is different though. This Friday I can’t help but think of next Friday.

As I was processing the happenings of today, and placing my pick-up order for my monthly groceries, it struck me that this world is greedy. There’s no option for my usual toilet paper order, the same amount that I buy every month. The only purchase I’ve made of TP since last month. And yesterday there was a truckload on it’s way to my area...probably...and it wrecked and burned up. A whole truck load of toilet paper-gone.

The only thing that I could think, was that it made sense. With people hoarding things they didn’t need, depriving others of what they DO need, it makes sense that there wouldn’t be any available.

Nothing new, seeing the world with greedy hearts. It’s happened over and over and this won’t likely be the last time either. But don’t miss those who are doing the opposite. Those who are coming together in various ways. Changing priorities, routines. Moving their focus from themselves and toward others and finding ways to reach out, help and save.

Back to my story, Friday before the next Friday…

Over 2000 years ago, on a Friday, Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. He stopped in Bethany to see friends. While He was there He experienced greed, but more than that, He experienced a huge lack of greed. A very selfless and generous act of love. John 12: 1-8

If only we all had a heart like Mary. We would give what we had to others in love, knowing that they would benefit from it more than we would and not hoard it for a different occasion or sell it for more than it was worth. We would generously pour out love for others, and be mindful of their needs.

Jesus wants us to love Him that way. He wants us to love each other that way too. Mark 12:30-31 Otherwise, He wouldn’t have been in Bethany that day, that Friday, on His way to Jerusalem.
