Get Off the Fence!
One day when you’re twiddling your thumbs, look up Humpty Dumpty. I was amused at the thoughts surrounding the meaning of the nursery rhyme and pretty impressed about the history of it.
The reason I’m referring to Sir Humpty today, oops, there are thoughts that there was actually no gender for Humpty...whatever, I’m musing these thoughts to you today for a purposeful reason.
It came to me that there are a high number of folks sitting around on fences today, many in my own family. My mind swirls at the thought...I know, some of you know for certain my mind is always in a swirl, hey-it’s an entertaining world!
I could go on and on about fences here and describe the varied ones that surround my property even; but know this-too much fanny on a fence causes that fence to fall.
It’s time to get off the fence.
Time to stop sitting there wondering what to do, where to go. It’s time to hop down and get to work.
Each side has droves of workers pushing toward that fence. One side of the fence is struggling, the other is thriving. Which side are you leaning towards?
I’m not saying to jump down on that greener side, no, no, no. It may look like a softer landing, but you don’t know what’s under that lush cover. You better make an educated decision before you leap. The wrong side may very well look like the easy one, don’t be fooled.
Take note of our old buddy Humpty, his fall was great. It was such a blunder that he couldn’t be set right again, nor could all the king's horses or the king's men put him back together. He made a bad decision and it cost him his life. Forever.
So bad was his decision, we’re still going on about it over 200 years later.
All kidding aside, this is not a time to be sitting up there on the fence. We need to get down and dirty about what’s going on. All the KING'S horses are being saddled up. All the KING'S men are making ready. Soon the trumpets will sound and they’ll likely blow folks off that fence whether they’re ready or they’re not.
Those of us who’ve already jumped down from the fence, we need to start shaking that fence and pulling others down when they can’t make up their mind to move. Wading through the mud, tiptoeing through the brokenness they’re facing, kicking past all the hindrances that are thwarting their decisions or gliding along the silky green, mossy, soft loveliness that could very well be waiting beneath their feet...we need to be offering our hand to them. Opening our arms ready to catch them. Urging them and coaxing them to come on down and follow with us. We have to lead the way. The time is now. That fence is not gonna hold forever.
If you’re up there on that fence, or teetering on that wall that separates you from death or life, holding tight with both hands, nails embedded and scared to jump, don’t be...look closely at the side you’re leaning toward and make sure it leads to happiness, joy, peace. Have faith that you’re going to land on solid ground. Trust that you are taking the side of forever-life, then leap into the arms of truth and love. Go ahead! You won’t be sorry. The KING’s army is right here waiting and we are armored up!
