Socks Don’t Last Forever

How often do you have to buy socks? I can't remember the last time I actually bought new socks. The ones I wear every day are comfortable and I like they way they fit. Every pair of socks I have are exactly the same. There's never a need to match socks, I just throw them all in a drawer and pull out two every morning. It's like they get to change friends each time they go to work. They never know who it'll be. One day it may be Merv and Sal, then next week Sal may have Tom. They just never know.

Today, Sal had a hole in the toe.

What to do. Do I mend Sal and keep on wearing it? Do I just leave Sal be and see how long until I can no longer deal with my toe sticking out? Is life for Sal in the workforce of my sock drawer over?

Can I just tell you that I had a pair of jeans for at least ten years before I finally donated them. They were finally just too big. Soft, loose, familiar and so comfy. Those "Old Friend" jeans got to be ridiculous and they just had to go. Hopefully someone is enjoying them now. Those jeans MIGHT last forever!

But socks don't.

Some people long for change, some make change happen regularly. I wouldn't say that I "hate" change, I just like my comfort zone. I like my red satin pillow case, my certain coffee mugs, my raggedy quilt, you know, the predictable. I don't like surprises, like injured animals, no electricity or broken water heaters. I was pretty depressed when I had to trade in my truck. Maude and I had quite the history. Plus, I really do hate payments!

Life is unpredictable and things just don't last forever. Health, jobs, dogs, appliances...stuff just isn't

made to last. Never was, never will be. Stuff USED to be made better than it is now, but really, what's forever anymore? I know ONE thing that is. I hope you do too! See ya there! Forever!

I'll be the one running around in baggy jeans and socks with holes in the toe. My "holy" socks...
