Who are you, Maxine or Pooh?
You may be able to relate to Maxine, the popular cartoon that has a huge following for her sour, crabby disposition. It's fun to be able to relate to things like that and laugh at ourselves. However, being crabby and sour everyday has got to have a negative impact on your health! I mean, seriously, bah-humbug aside, let's find joy in something!
Pointing out positives instead of negatives should be a daily practice. So often people in management or supervisory positions aren't seen as "likeable" to those around them. I'd chalk most of that up to the fact that maybe they don't spend enough time noticing when others do something right.
A couple of times in my career days, I had opportunity to lead a group of people and I know first hand how much of an impact positivity makes on others and even to myself! Finding things that needed improving, or notating things that weren't going well or needed correction was part of my job, but I loved giving pats on the back for things that were going well. Acknowledging the positives even lifted my spirits!
You can't always know what's going on in someones life that, "Hey, I noticed what a great job you did on..." or a simple, "Thank You for..." will do for them. Especially if all they're used to is a pessimistic "Lucy" or "Eeyore"complaining or pointing out all the negatives.
I'm not suggesting we all walk around like Winnie the Pooh, but I think we might all be able to take a lesson from him. He likes everyone to be happy. He's happy when they're happy, and yucky when they're yucky. Considerate. Consider-ought...Ought not we consider being considerate?
