Drowning, Sustaining or Nourishing?
When you submerse something, you totally cover it. Whatever you fill or cover it with, fully encompases the thing. It permeates every possible cavity and seeps into any opening.
I love the feeling of being submerged in a body of water. Growing up I spent as much time as I possibly could in our pool, especially when I was pregnant during a Texas heatwave. The coolness of the water was refreshing and the weightlessness gave relief to my swollen limbs.
These days I don’t take opportunity to soak in a tub like I probably should, and I haven’t paid much attention to what I submerse myself in. However, I realize how impactful submersion can be. If I fill my eyes with visions brought on by the thoughts and creations of someone else, I can have a hard time shaking them from my mind. There are things I can read that bring on thoughts that I wouldn’t entertain otherwise and if I hear music with harsh tones I can react in a hurried manner.
It’s a good idea to submerge ourselves in things that are good for us; things that help us make good decisions, thoughtful choices and smart goals.
Much better to submerge ourselves in a pure and clean salve than a tainted and dirty grime that takes forever to get rid of. Better still to consider, think about and plan what we submerge ourselves in. Don’t go jumping into something just because someone else does or because it seems like the right thing to do; decide what’s good for YOU and figure out how to dive in. Maybe you’ll go in head first. Some may stick a toe in before jumping but then others may go for it and cannon ball from the get-go. I typically ease on in slowly, feeling the sensation as it creeps along until I’m all the way in, but once I’m there I get comfortable and stay for a while.
Whether you’re comfortable where you are, or if you need to add something to keep the waters from being tepid, figure out what you need to submerse yourself in to be happy. Hopefully it’s all you, not someone else’s idea, thoughts or story. Find what makes YOU happy. Take a break from the normal, warm and calm waters and add some fresh. Maybe you’re tired of the same ol’ same ol’- run a new tub. Step outside of your comfort zone and try a different thing.
If I’m being too vague let me clarify-BE YOU.
Stop caring what others think and do what makes you joyful. For example, if you’re tired of the droaning on and on about the same thing, change the channel. Read a different book. Change your focus!
For me, I find that filling my nostrils with fresh air cleanses my soul. Filling my eyes with the beauty of silent, floating clouds quiets my mind. Listening to joyful music lifts my spirit and filling my heart with His love makes me peaceful about who I am.
Hopefully you don’t have to wonder what I choose to submerge myself in.
