The Not So Freaky Friday
One day I saw two movies on the same day, The Wax Museum and Freaky Friday. Well, although The Wax Museum made a big impact on my young mind, Freaky Friday was the one that hit home. I loved that movie. Who hasn’t wanted to change places with someone?
Oh for the break in the mundane of a child’s life. All the getting up and going to school. Being fed three times a day, never having to worry about having clothes and electricity. Bills are always paid and food magically appears in the fridge.
Thinking about living someone elses life is sort-of like the excitement and awe of visiting an amusement park. All the ramping up of FUN in the advertisements. The day finally comes and you blast through the gate and run as fast as you can to that ONE roller coaster that you’ve been waiting all year to ride…
Or, getting that puppy you’ve been begging for.
We often get wrapped up in the hype of what we think “could be” and don’t think about what the reality of it really is.
If you’ve seen the movie you know how the story unfolds. The reality of being an adult isn’t what the daughter really wanted out of the situation. And I don’t know about you but, those roller coasters are different in person, when you’re strapped in and can’t change your mind.
In today’s world it seems that everyone wants what they don’t have or what they think is better than what they’ve got. Maybe the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, it’s just in how you look at it. When I walk into that part of the field, it’s the same grass as was on my side, but there’s a lot more rocks.
Today I hope you’re happy where you are. That you aren’t comparing yourself, your life or your situation to anyone elses, or looking past the greatness of today toward the unknown of tomorrow. The reality of what you think may be way different. Learning to see the value in what God gives you and appreciating it goes a long way in realizing peace, fulfillment and joy.
When you’re running so hard for that “change”-that exciting new coaster, stop and look back at the ones you’ve already ridden and the ones that you’ve yet to conquer along the way; they may be the ones you enjoy the most.
And that puppy-it grows up.
Psalm 37, 1 Timothy 6 and James 4, are good reads with an open mind.
