Roo and Sun-Friends Forever

In a small town where a small farm sits on a small hill above a small lake and small animals run around, there is a small rooster named Roo. He’s a Cockle-Doodle-Do named Roo Roo Roo- Roo for short.

Roo loves his life on the farm. He makes himself busy each day by keeping the yard as free from pests as possible. He runs around and hops about from dusk ‘till dawn. Roo's jobs include keeping the sheep free from flies, the garden free from grasshoppers and the family free from mosquitoes. All this work just helps him stay in good shape and makes him happy. Roo likes to stay busy and be helpful. It makes him feel important, so he makes sure to look important with his chest all puffed out at all times.

His favorite thing to do each day is to make sure everyone gets up and outside in time to see his friend Sun! Sun is Roo’s best friend ever. Roo loves Sun so much that he just can’t think of anyone missing his arrival every single morning.

Sun is such a warm and beautiful friend to Roo. Every day Sun plays peek-a-boo with Roo. He starts by slowly revealing himself as a low amber light, then little by little his light gets brighter and brighter. Sometimes Sun throws a little more color in his game of Peek-A-Boo. Some days there is a little red. Some days there’s more orange. Some days there’s even pink in his early light. Sun calls this game Dawn.

Roo is so anxious and excited to see Sun each day that he gets out of bed while it’s still dark outside. He stretches his feathery neck, puffs out his chest and struts outside to the cool, dark morning. Then, he finds the highest spot that he can hop onto and waits there patiently for Sun. As soon as the morning sky begins to show a little peek of Dawn, Roo fills his lungs with air and lets out a big “EERR-AH-ERR-A-KOOO!”

“Get up everyone!!!”

Roo just can’t think of anyone missing Sun’s amazing performance!

“EERR-AH-ERR-A-KOO!!!!”  “Come on everybody! You have to see this!”

Everyone on the farm slowly comes out to see what all the fuss is about.

Pearl the donkey is especially unimpressed. “I just want breakfast!” she complains with a loud, “EEEhaweeehawhawhaw”.

The sheep family strolls along making trails in the dewy grass, stopping every now and then to quietly munch on the cool, crisp forage. “Mmm-num-num, It’s beautiful Roo. Munch-munch”.

Cactus Jack, the Longhorn Steer, peeps around the hay bale, “Oh, hey there Sun. Good mornin’ to ya there. Nice to see ya Pardner.”

One by one, the horses stroll out of the barn yawning, Jasper groans, “It’s about time Sun. We thought you’d never get here.”

“What time is it?” mumbles Kota the painted pony.

CJ just slowly stretches his plump body and yawns really big. Then slaps his lips together knowing it’s only a matter of minutes before he gets his breakfast. He never really says much at all. Ever.

The ducks come waddling down from the pond excitedly quacking and waving their wings. “Yumm-yumm for my tumm-tumm.” “Yes, yes!” “Oh-Boy!” over and over they chatter.

All the while Roo keeps hollering for everyone to welcome Sun. And good ol’ Sun just keeps on coming up. Up. UP!

Finally, everyone is waiting.

Then, when the time is just right, and the colors are all brilliantly blended together, Sun pops up with a toothy grin, “Ta-DA!”

Sun always has a big smile on his face! Bright and happy. Such a warm smile that everyone looks up and smiles back at him as big and happy as they can. So big are their smiles, their eyes are closed tight, and their heads are kicked back.  Some even have their mouths open in glee.

Roo is especially happy. He loves Sun so much and he is always excited to share his love for Sun with everyone!
